In case you missed it: grammar in the workplace

I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating: If you believe that nobody cares about grammar anymore, please take a look at this article in The Wall Street Journal: “This Embarrasses You and I.” Here’s a brief excerpt:
“Managers are fighting an epidemic of grammar gaffes in the workplace. Many of them attribute slipping skills to the informality of email, texting and Twitter where slang and shortcuts are common. Such looseness with language can create bad impressions with clients, ruin marketing materials and cause communications errors, many managers say.”
The article touches on errors such as grammatical hypercorrection in personal pronouns (an example of which is the intentionally incorrect “you and I” in the title of the article); inappropriate informality; and violation of subject-verb agreement.

The Takeaway: Read the article and see if you are habitually making errors that detract from your professionalism. Good grammar can help give you an edge.
